The South Rupununi District Council (SRDC), a community-based organisation, which is a representative body of the elected Toshaos and Senior Councilors of the 21 indigenous communities of Southern Rupununi region of Guyana. The scope of the SRDC’s work includes matters related to land management, sustainable development and environmental monitoring and protection. The SRDC’s freshwater protection campaign focuses on the protection of four important rivers ecosystems in the South Rupununi. The main objectives are to advocate for the protection of the headwaters of the South Rupununi at the national level and to raise awareness of the importance of headwaters at the local and national level.
Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) is a network of civic organizations with the general aim of strengthening accountability and transparency issues related to natural resources, climate change and extractive industries. The freshwater campaign, which is focused on Combatting River Pollution, aims to increase awareness to develop a realistic sense of the scope of the task of rehabilitating polluted rivers, as well as to engender national commitment towards the protection of freshwater resources threatened by pollution in Guyana.
